Traffic Control Technicians

This course provides an overview of the Minnesota Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MN MUTCD) standards and guidelines, including the Field Manual. Topics include selecting appropriate temporary traffic control layouts, work zone speed limits, use of truck‑mounted attenuators (TMA), drop‑off standards, and the proper operation of flashing arrow boards and portable changeable message signs (PCMS).

Course is recommended for field workers and field supervisors.

Certification expiration

Certification is valid for five years. The certification card specifies the expiration date.

Registration

All classes are in-person and available only at MnDOT facilities. Prospective attendees are strongly encouraged to have at least one year of traffic control experience prior to enrollment.
