Lane closures begin on the Highway 25 bridge in Monticello April 1

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – In preparation for this summer’s Highway 25 Mississippi River bridge work in Monticello, the Minnesota Department of Transportation will need to install netting under the bridge to prevent migratory birds from nesting in mid-April. The work will require off-peak lane closures.

Here's what to expect beginning Monday, April 1:

  • Highway 25 will be reduced to one lane, on either side of the bridge, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday–Friday, on good weather days. The work will take up to five days to complete.
  • Motorists are encouraged to check 511mn.org for current travel speeds and conditions.

Motorists are asked to pay attention as crews work from a snooper truck parked on either side of the bridge to attach the netting.

Be prepared for delays July 8 to late October 2024

MnDOT will resurface and update the Highway 25 bridge over the Mississippi River in Monticello between July 8 and late October 2024. The work will impact travel in the area.

Overall, Highway 25 will be reduced to one lane, each direction, 24-7, at the bridge for the full duration of the project. Traffic will merge and shift to either side of the highway through the work zone from Third Street to east of Sherburne County Road 11/14.

Travelers who commute frequently between I-94 in Monticello and Highway 10 in Big Lake or Becker will want to plan ahead and consider alternate Mississippi River crossings in central Minnesota.
