I-35 Hinckley work resumes May 5
DULUTH, Minn. –The Minnesota Department of Transportation will be resuming work on I-35 in Hinckley on May 5 with single lane traffic in each direction during daytime work hours. On May 12, traffic will be shifted to the northbound side in a single lane, head-to-head format and will remain that way until the fall.
Work occurring in 2025 includes replacing the southbound Grindstone River bridge, replacing the southbound rail bridge, resurfacing the southbound Hwy 48 on and off ramps, and resurfacing I-35. Motorists can expect delays especially during peak weekend travel times.

Work Zone Safety Tips:
- Obey posted speed limits. The fine for speeding in a work zone is $300.
- Drive undistracted. Avoid using cell phones, mobile devices, adjusting the radio – even eating –while in work zones.
- Move over. Give workers room to safely complete their work.
- Be patient. Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
- Do the zipper merge.
- Avoid making unnecessary lane changes.
- Never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
