Southwest Minnesota pavement marking project gets underway
WILLMAR, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation is upgrading roadway striping to wet reflective markings on several highways in Kandiyohi, Lac qui Parle, McLeod, Meeker, Renville, and Redwood counties. Striping operations will take place throughout the rest of this year’s construction program and then pause for the winter before resuming next summer.
Travel impacts
Drivers may encounter temporary lane closures with flaggers, as well as slow-moving equipment. Expect brief delays when crews are present.
MnDOT asks travelers to always drive with caution and to slow down in project areas for their safety and the safety of workers.
Project summary
Special equipment creates a groove in the pavement and is followed by striping equipment which installs ground-in paint with wet reflective properties. The pavement markings are being updated as part of a regular maintenance cycle to meet current safety standards.
Crews will complete work on the following highways during the next two years.
- Highway 12 in Meeker County
- Highway 15 in McLeod and Meeker counties
- Highway 22 in McLeod and Meeker counties
- Highway 19 in Redwood County
- Highway 71 in Renville and Kandiyohi counties
- Highway 212 in Lac qui Parle and McLeod counties
Benefits of the project include enhanced safety as wet reflective markings are more visible at night and in rainy conditions. The project cost is approximately $2.9 million, and Century Traffic, LLC, is the contractor.
