Highway 4 south of Sleepy Eye reopened to traffic today
MANKATO, Minn. – Highway 4, from just south of Sleepy Eye to Brown County Road 24, reopened to traffic this morning, Saturday, July 19, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
This section of the highway had been closed since late May to allow MnDOT’s contractor to complete finishing work near the Cottonwood River bridge, as part of the larger Highway 4 improvement project between St. James and Sleepy Eye, which began last year.
Although the highway reopened to traffic today, some detour signage will remain in place until it is removed next week.
Motorists should also anticipate intermittent lane closures and flagging operations between Sleepy Eye and St. James as crews continue to complete final work on the project.
The Highway 4 project between St. James to Sleepy Eye included resurfacing approximately 25 miles of roadway and replacing three bridges, along with other roadway and drainage improvements. These improvements have allowed Highway 4 between St. James and Sleepy Eye to be designated a 10-ton route.
Ulland Brothers, Inc. is the project’s prime contractor.
MnDOT thanks the public for their patience during this project.
