Hwy 22 Mankato to St. Peter

MANKATO, Minn. —Construction on Hwy 22 between Mankato and St. Peter is progressing well, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Current construction activities include:

  • Culvert installation and grading for construction of a roundabout at Le Sueur County Road 21 near Kasota.
  • Storm sewer and culvert work near Pearl Street.
  • Curb and gutter placement from Le Sueur County Road 21 to the Minnesota River.
  • Grading work and culvert installation near Blue Earth County Road 57.
  • Repairs to the Hwy 22 bridge over the railroad, including concrete deck overlay, approach panel replacement, and rail installation.

Hwy 22 has been closed since April 11, with through traffic detoured to Hwys 14 and 169. Hwy 22 is expected to reopen for the winter months, before construction resumes in spring 2026. Schedules are subject to change depending upon weather and other unforeseeable delays. 

The 2025-26 project includes:

  • Reconstruction of Hwy 22 from south of Blue Earth County Road 57 in Mankato to just south of the Minnesota River Bridge in St. Peter.
  • Adding new turn and passing lanes for safety.
  • A new roundabout at Hill Street (Le Sueur County Road 21) near Kasota
  • Bridge repair and replacement
  • Improved lighting at intersections and installation of snow fence
  • Preparation for a future walking and biking trail connecting Mankato and St. Peter. 

MnDOT urgers motorists not to enter the work zone or go around barricades for safety.

Mathiowetz Construction Company was awarded the project with a bid of $36,896,294.56.
