MnDOT to host open house in Granite Falls for Hwy 212 bridge resurfacing project Aug. 21

WILLMAR, Minn. —The Minnesota Department of Transportation invites the public to attend an in-person open house on Thursday, Aug. 21, to learn about the upcoming Hwy 212 bridge resurfacing project over the Minnesota River, just east of Hwy 23 in Granite Falls, scheduled to start in 2026.

The open house will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Yellow Medicine County Hwy Building, 1320 13th Street, Granite Falls.

  • There will be no formal presentation, and people are invited to stop by at their convenience during open house hours. MnDOT staff will be available to answer questions about the 2026 construction project, including the timeline, lane closures, and traffic impacts. There is also information available online at Hwy 212 Granite Falls Bridge Resurfacing- MnDOT

To request an ASL or foreign language interpreter or other reasonable accommodation to be present at the open house, call Janet Miller at 800-657-3774 or email janet.rae.miller@state.mn.us.

Project overview

  • During most of the project, half of the Hwy 212 bridge will be closed while the other half remains open to traffic. This staged approach allows traffic to continue moving in both directions for the majority of the construction period.
  • The bridge will be fully closed twice during construction, each closure lasting 12 days. Traffic will be detoured during both closures. Motorists should plan for possible delays during resurfacing and curing phases.
