Highway 12 construction begins in Montrose week of Aug. 18

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation will begin construction on Highway 12 in Montrose the week of Aug. 18. This work is part of a larger project to rebuild, resurface and update pedestrian facilities in Howard Lake, Waverly and Montrose, continuing through late October.

What to expect in Montrose:

  • Highway 12 will be open to one lane of traffic in each direction from east Clementa Avenue SW to east of Zephyr Avenue.
  • Expect narrow lanes, lane shifts, gravel surfaces and flaggers directing traffic. Shoulders and turn lanes will close at times.
  • Crews will primarily work between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Access to local businesses and residents will remain open. However, expect use of alternate entrances or side streets, includes pedestrian detours.

Crews will pave new asphalt on Highway 12; reconstruct or repair curbs, gutters and side entrances; and add a center turn lane at Zephyr Avenue and Arizona Avenue. They will also reconstruct the Highway 12 intersection at Highway 25 and Wright County Road 12/Buffalo Avenue S to improve the truck turning radius and pedestrian crosswalk.

Work will continue in Howard Lake and Waverly through late August. In the fall, workers will return to all three communities to apply the final road surface and permanent markings.

When complete in late October, the project will provide smoother roads and improve safety for drivers and pedestrians on Highway 12.
