Highway 74 bridge work detours traffic at St. Charles
ST. CHARLES, Minn. – Motorists on Highway 74 are being detoured north of Highway 14 in St. Charles while crews complete drilling work to collect concrete samples near the existing bridge abutments to determine construction methods needed for the new bridge, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Motorists will not be able to cross the bridge for several weeks while the drilling work is occurring.
People traveling on Highway 74 north toward Whitewater State Park will be detoured north on Whitewater Street from Highway 14 and then west on First Street West to Highway 74. Motorists traveling south will follow the route in reverse.
The work is in preparation for the Highway 74 St. Charles bridge replacement, which is scheduled for construction in 2027. The bridge crosses the South Fork Whitewater River in St. Charles.
