Highway 55 in Annandale reopens to all travelers
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation is pleased to announce that Highway 55 in Annandale will reopen to all travelers on Friday, Oct. 17.
This milestone marks the completion of a six-month, $11.5 million project that resurfaced and improved Highway 55 from Brown Avenue to Annandale Boulevard. Crews widened shoulders, upgraded underground utilities and enhanced pedestrian access throughout the corridor.
Key improvements
- Wider shoulders and a center turn lane to improve traffic flow and safety
- Rebuilt corridor from Brown Avenue to Poplar Avenue, including updated water, sewer and stormwater systems
- Upgraded Highway 24 intersections with a new signal at Excelsior Avenue, a flashing pedestrian crosswalk at Highway 24/Harrison Street, and a realigned connection to Poplar Avenue with a side road cul-de-sac
- New sidewalks on both sides of Highway 55 and upgraded street lighting
The segment east of Poplar Avenue was completed ahead of schedule. With the detour removed and all lanes reopened, travelers will benefit from a smoother road surface, improved storm drainage and safer access along Highway 55 in Annandale.
MnDOT thanks the community and traveling public for their continued patience during the project.
