No travel advisory issued for a portion of South Central Minnesota

Strong winds and limited visibility create hazardous driving conditions

MANKATO, Minn. – (7:20 p.m.) The Minnesota Department of Transportation has issued a No Travel Advisory for the following state highway in South Central Minnesota due to snow and strong winds causing blowing snow and reduced visibility:

  • Highway 60, from Butterfield to Heron Lake

Motorists are advised not to travel in this area until conditions improve.

No travel advised means that the roadway has deteriorated and/or visibility has been reduced to the point that it is very dangerous to travel; there are reports of intermittent whiteout conditions; and, some weather conditions can be severe enough that road treatments, such as salt or sand, are not effective.

MnDOT snowplow operators will do their best to make highways safe, but motorists should be aware that plow operators cannot see any better than other drivers and may be pulled off the highways for their own safety.
