MnDOT to replace emergency gates along Interstate 90 in South Central Minnesota starting May 20
MANKATO, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation will begin replacing aging emergency gates along Interstate 90 in South Central Minnesota beginning May 20.
The work includes replacing vertical emergency gates, cabinets, wiring, flashers, and road-closures signs at multiple locations along I-90 and at several entrance ramps between the South Dakota border and Highway 71. The current emergency gates are at the end of their service life.
MnDOT uses emergency gates on major corridors to block traffic during hazardous conditions such as severe snowstorms, crashes, or flooding.
Motorists should expect shoulder closures and watch for crews working near the roadway. The project is expected to be completed by mid-July. Schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
Hunt Electric Corporation was awarded the project with a bid of $1,581,684.60.
