During construction
Highway 28 is closed to thru-traffic until October. What motorists should know:
- No destination on the roadway (thru-traffic): Please follow the detour.
- Destination or home on the roadway (local traffic): You can still get there, access to homes and businesses will be maintained.
- Expect restrictions in areas where crews are working
- Roadway will be impassable for centerline culvert replacements. Be prepared to find an alternate route.
- Sign up to receive project updates during construction.
Important local traffic restrictions:
- You cannot enter Cyrus from the east, so please use County Road 3 to enter from the south, or find an alternate route.
- Starting June 8, weather permitting, Phase 2 work in Cyrus will start, occuring concurrently with the Phase 1 remaining work. Residents/local traffic will use 3rd Street to Nelson Street to cross Highway 28. Please cross with care, the Highway 28/Nelson Street intersection remains gravel.
- Centerline culvert replacements west of Starbuck: Starting June 8 and lasting about two weeks, weather permitting, Highway 28 will be impassable to all local traffic from the west edge of Starbuck at 300th Avenue to County Road 81/320th Avenue. Be prepare to find an alternate route.
Thru-traffic detour
During construction, Highway 28 will close to thru-traffic and detoured:
- Cyrus access: Use County Road 3 from the thru-traffic detour to/from Cyrus.
- Local traffic restrictions: Crews will replace centerline and entrance culverts throughout the entire project. Some areas may become impassable for several days and residents will need to find alternate routes around those locations.

City of Cyrus - Construction phasing
Phase 1 and 2 will be completed concurrently starting June 8 to maintain the current pace of progress on utility replacements:
- Phase 1 between Dahl Street and the bridge east of town
- Phase 2 between Bergen Street and Dahl Street. Use in-town detour route to Nelson Street to cross Highway 28.
