The intersection will be closed during construction and motorists will be detoured.

  • Motorists on Hwy 63, east of the intersection will be detoured south on Olmsted Co. Rd. 33/North Broadway Ave., west on 48th St. NW-55th St. NW and north on Hwy 52 to reach Hwy 63. The detour route for motorists west of the intersection uses the same roads in reverse.
  • Motorists north of the intersection on 18th Ave. will be detoured west on Olmsted Co. Rd. 154 (85th St.) and south on 31st Ave. to reach Hwy 63.
  • Motorists south of the intersection on Co. Rd. 112 will be detoured west on Overland Dr. (65th St.) and north on Hwy 52 to reach Hwy 63.

Summary of work

Construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Hwy 63 (75th St. NW) and Olmsted Co. Rd. 112 (18th Ave. NW) is scheduled to begin June 2, 2025 north of Rochester. Work is expected to be completed late-August.

Currently, this is an intersection with two highway-speed roads. Stop signs control traffic on Co. Rd. 112. At times, drivers become impatient because of limited gaps in traffic. This has led to a sustained history of crashes. Building a roundabout at the intersection will help reduce dangerous driving behavior and the number of crashes by improving traffic flow.

In addition to the roundabout construction, crews will be installing new lighting, making accessibility improvements and installing a box culvert north of Hwy 63 on Co. Rd. 112.

Find information about the planning of the project on the public engagement website.

Benefits of a roundabout

  • Significantly reduces the risk of serious and fatal crashes
  • Allows drivers to get through the intersection more safely and in less time
    • Roundabouts handle high levels of traffic with less delay than most stop signs or signals
  • Slows traffic to make entering and exiting the area easier for all users

Navigating a roundabout

Roundabouts may be unfamiliar at first, but with practice, navigating them will get easier with each trip. Watch our roundabout simulation and see how it works. Learn more about roundabouts.
