Upcoming

Information about upcoming traffic impacts will be posted as details become available. Motorists can expect road, ramp, bridge and lane closures during construction. Up to 20 ramps will be closed during the construction season. There will be weekend closures on Hwy 12 between Central Ave./Co. Rd. 101 and I-494 before Memorial Day or after Labor Day.

• Hwy 12 is reduced to two lanes in both directions between Shoreline Dr. and Central Ave. (Co. Rd. 101)
  • Starting in early May, Hwy 12 will alternate directions reduced to one lane. A moveable barrier system will be used to shift lane closures to keep traffic moving during construction:
    • Morning rush hours (weekdays from approximately 8 p.m. to 11:30 a.m.): Westbound Hwy 12 will be reduced to one lane, eastbound Hwy 12 will be reduced to two lanes
    • Afternoon rush hours (weekdays from approximately 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.): Eastbound Hwy 12 will be reduced to one lane, westbound Hwy 12 will be reduced to two lanes
    • Weekends: Eastbound Hwy 12 will be reduced to one lane, westbound Hwy 12 will be reduced to two lanes; this configuration may change pending traffic volume and needs.

  • Westbound Hwy 12 to Shoreline Dr.
  • Westbound Hwy 12 to/from Central Ave. (Co. Rd. 101)

• The following ramps are closed:
  • Northbound Shoreline Dr. to eastbound Hwy 12
  • Eastbound Hwy 12 to/from Central Ave. (Co. Rd. 101)

About this project

We are rebuilding Hwy 12 near downtown Wayzata between Shoreline Dr./Co. Rd. 15 and Central Ave. North/Co. Rd. 101. Originally built in 1970, this section of Hwy 12 needs to be replaced to continue to serve residents and those that use the highway.

We are repaving Hwy 12, replacing lighting, and making accessibility improvements between Central Ave. North/Co. Rd. 101 in Wayzata and I-494 in Minnetonka. We will also be repairing ramps along this section of Hwy 12.

When work is finished, Hwy 12 will have a smoother road surface, improved lighting and visibility for motorists, and accessible sidewalks and bike paths.

Summary of work

• Rebuild Hwy 12 between Shoreline Dr. and Central Ave./Co. Rd. 101
• Resurface the pavement on Hwy 12 between Central Ave./Co. Rd. 101 and Gleason Lake Rd./Co. Rd. 15
• Repair the concrete pavement on Hwy 12 between Gleason Lake Rd. and I-494
• Repair up to 20 ramps throughout the project area, including the following interchanges:
• Hwy 12 and Gleason Lake Rd.
• Hwy 12 and Carlson Pkwy.
• I-494 and Hwy 12
• Replace utilities, improve drainage and upgrade overhead signage along Hwy 12 between Shoreline Dr. and Central Ave./Co. Rd. 101
• Replace lighting
• ADA improvements at multiple locations along Hwy 12
