Community engagement

We’re committed to hearing from the community at every step of this study. Your feedback matters greatly, and we appreciate the time and thought you put into sharing it. Whether through comment cards, online forms, emails, phone calls, or letters, every comment is carefully reviewed to help us identify meaningful insights and potential changes we can make during this phase of the study. For more ways to stay involved or share input, please visit the Contacts webpage.

This process makes sure that community voices are heard and balanced with technical requirements and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process. Your involvement is crucial to finding the best solutions, so please stay engaged and keep sharing your ideas.

From 2024-2025, we gathered feedback on the design options, including:

  • Road design options
  • Preferred intersection access combinations along the road
  • Improvements for people walking, biking, and rolling
  • Transit lanes
  • Noise and air quality
  • Your vision for the look and feel of the road (visual quality)

Later this fall, the project team will release the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for public review and input. The Draft EIS will present all ten project alternatives and the no build alternative and identify the preferred alternative for this project area. These alternatives will focus on:

  • Determine number of lanes: Analyze how many lanes Hwy 252 and I-94 should have
  • Assess environmental impacts: Evaluate potential effects related to noise, air quality, and other environmental factors

While the formal public comment period will occur during the Draft EIS review, the project team welcomes feedback at any time. During this time, there will also be an opportunity to vote on noise walls evaluated for the identified preferred alternative; more information about noise wall workshops and the evaluation process can be found on the Health webpage.

In 2027, we will be publishing the Final EIS and Record of Decision which selects Preferred Alternative and identifies mitigation.

Previous engagement

Dozens of community events have been held in person and virtually to gather information from community members, including the diverse communities that live near and rely on this corridor every day. Partnerships with local organizations that serve diverse populations in the area include the Stairstep Foundation, Lao Assistance Center, and CAPI.
